Newspapers Review: Dailies highlight Palestinian remarks affirming right to build anywhere

 

RAMALLAH, Thursday, August 01, 2019 (WAFA) – Official Palestinian remarks stressing the right to build anywhere in the occupied territory was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies along with the visit of Jarod Kushner, senior advisor to the US president, and remarks by President Mahmoud Abbas regarding the independence of the judiciary.

The main front page story in al-Ayyam focused on statements by Abbas’ spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh in which he said Palestinians have the right to build anywhere on their land occupied by Israel in 1967 without the need for a permission from anyone.

It said that Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh had made a similar statement on the right of Palestinians to build anywhere on their lands.

The paper also said in another story that the Israeli settlement watch group, Peace Now, has exposed “shocking” details about Israeli construction in area C of the occupied West Bank.

It also quoted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying that the settlements are here to stay forever.

Al-Quds, which also highlighted Abu Rudeineh’s statement, made Kushner’s visit to the region and his meeting with Netanyahu and before him King Abdullah of Jordan as its main front page story.

It said King Abdullah stressed to Kushner the importance of establishing an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

It said that a US official has denied claims that US President Donald Trump is going to convene a conference in Camp David that includes Arab and Israeli leaders.

This denial was also reported in al-Ayyam by its correspondent in Jerusalem who quoted an anonymous senior White House official saying the US team will present a progress report to Trump and his senior staff after they complete their visit to the region.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted as it main front page story remarks by President Abbas on the independence of the Palestinian judiciary and his decree on forming the Higher Coordination council for the Justice Sector.

It also said Abbas met with the founder of the Dubai-based Careem ride-hailing company, which started services in Palestine last year, and honored several artists.

It quoted senior Fatah official, Mahmoud Aloul, saying that there are gains from the recent decision to end work on the agreements with Israel.

Al-Ayyam quoted another senior Fatah official, Azzam al-Ahmad, saying that recent Hamas acts in Gaza go along with the American so-called deal of the century.

It also said in another report from Gaza that Hamas cancelled five ministries and introduced changes in the top ranks in seven others.

Al-Quds said the factions in Gaza have warned Israel against shooting and killing Palestinian protesters on the Gaza border with Israel.

It said in another story from Jerusalem that Israeli settlers attempted to kidnap three Palestinian children near Lions’ Gate.
