Weather forecast: Heat stress to increase

 

RAMALLAH, Monday, July 29, 2019 (WAFA) – Monday’s temperature is set to slightly rise and approach 3°C above the seasonal average, paving the way to an increase in the heat stress, said the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD).

Seasonably warm conditions are thus expected in daytime and mild conditions in the nighttime. Wind is southwesterly to northwesterly and light to moderate with occasional gusts. Sea waves are low.

Temperature in Jerusalem and Bethlehem is expected to reach a high of 31°C and a low of 21°C and in Ramallah and Hebron, a high of 29°C and a low of 20°C. In Jericho, the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley, temperature is expected to reach a high of 41°C and a low of 27°C, while it is expected to reach a high of 30°C and a low of 24°C in Gaza and the coastal areas.

Tuesday’s temperature is set to rise and approach 5°C above the seasonal average, paving the way to an increase in the heat stress.

PMD expects a slight rise in Wednesday’s temperature which approaches 6°C above the seasonal average, paving the way to hot conditions in various districts and very hot conditions in the Jordan Valley in daytime.

Mild conditions are expected in mountainous districts and relatively hot conditions in other districts in nighttime

A slight drop is anticipated in Thursday’s temperature by 1 °C, yet hot conditions continue to prevail in various districts in daytime and seasonably mild conditions in nighttime, particularly in mountainous districts.

People are warned against prolonged exposure to direct sunlight especially during the peak hours of the day between 11:00 am and 4:00 pm, as well as against setting fire to areas where dry grass has grown.
