TUNIS, Saturday, July 27, 2019 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas said today during the funeral ceremony of Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi in Tunis that his death is a big loss for Palestine, Tunisia and the entire Arab and Muslim world.
“Tunisia has a special place in our hearts. We cannot forget that from Tunisia, we started our trip back to Palestine,” he told the Arab leaders during a speech eulogizing Essebsi.
“We came today from Palestine to offer our condolences in respect of the great leader and friend, the late Beji Caid Essebsi,” said Abbas, describing him as the man who has protected Tunisia and secured its stability and democracy at the most difficult times.
The President offered condolences to the family of the deceased Tunisian leader and the entire people of Tunisia, saying he was sure that the brotherly people of Tunisia will eternalize his memory and legacy.
Thousands of people gathered in the streets of the Tunisian capital, Tunis, to bid farewell to their first democratically-elected president at a state funeral attended by Arab and foreign leaders.
