RAMALLAH, Saturday, July 27, 2019 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted today the weekly Friday protests at the Gaza border with Israel as part of the March of Return activities that have been taking place for the last 18 months with only one daily saying a Palestinian man was killed by Israeli army gunfire.
Al-Quds daily was the only paper that reported the death of Ahmad al-Qarra, 23, who was critically injured when shot by Israeli soldiers in the south of the Gaza Strip and was pronounced dead by the Ministry of Health shortly before midnight, which explains why the other two dailies have not mentioned him.
The papers said over 50 people were injured at the Gaza border protests by Israeli army gunfire.
Al-Ayyam said in a report from Khan Younis in southern Gaza, that in a new Israeli tactic against March of Return protesters undercover Israeli army units and trained dogs were used to snatch participants in the protests.
In the West Bank, the dailies said Palestinians confronted Israeli army crackdown on the weekly protests in Kufr Qaddoum and other villages and in Wadi al-Hummus area of Sur Baher, south of Jerusalem, where the army last week demolished 10 Palestinian residential buildings that left over 24 people, mainly children, homeless.
Local reaction to President Mahmoud Abbas’ announcement on ending all work on the agreements signed with Israel was also highlighted on the front page of the dailies, which said that Palestinians welcomed this announcement.
Al-Quds said that Palestinian municipalities appealed to Pope Francis about the buildings owned by the Greek Orthodox Church in Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem which were being taken over by Israeli settlers.
It said Palestinian refugees in Lebanon continued their protests against the Lebanese Labor Minister’s decision banning what is called foreign labor in Lebanon, including from Palestinian refugees, without first getting a work permit.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Abbas arrived in Tunisia to participate in the funeral of its deceased president.
It quote Human Rights Watch saying that US President Donald Trump gave Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the green light to do whatever he wants against the Palestinians.
