GAZA, Wednesday, July 24, 2019 (WAFA) - Takeshi Okubo, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine, visited today al-Shati refugee camp in the Gaza Strip to celebrate the completion of the project funded by the Government of Japan through Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), according to a press release.
The grant of $82,864 was used to rehabilitate al-Shati Services Center inside the camp by rehabilitating the services hall, rebuilding the collapsed wall, installing cover at the top of the stadium and providing the service center with electricity through solar system.
With the completion of this project, about 10,000 residents are going to benefit directly from al-Shati Services Center and 100,000 others indirectly, said the press release.
Okubo emphasized at the ceremony Japan’s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.
Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance to the Palestinians to approximately $1.9 billion. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through Ministry of Finance and Planning since 2010.
