RAMALLAH, Wednesday, July 24, 2019 (WAFA) – Wide condemnations of the Israeli rampage in Wadi al-Hummus in the Palestinian neighborhood of Sur Baher, southeast of Jerusalem, dominated the front page headlines in Wednesday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Quds reported that the Israeli rampage of home demolitions in Wadi al-Hummus evoked widespread condemnations.
Al-Ayyam said in this regard that various Arab and foreign countries continued to condemn the crime of house demolitions committed by the Israeli occupation authorities in Wadi al-Hummus.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that various European countries and United Nations Security Council (UNSC) envoys condemn the home demolitions in Wadi al-Hummus and affirm their commitment to the two-state solution.
Fatah Revolutionary Council’s (FRC) meeting chaired by President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah also dominated the front page headlines in the dailies.
FRC was reported in the dailies stating: “The city of Jerusalem constitutes the heart of our national project.”
FRC was also reported in al-Quds and al-Ayyam calling on the Palestinian people to firmly confront the Israeli occupation measures.
It was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida suggesting that “supporting Jerusalemites and their steadfastness is accorded the top priority in all our plans …”.
Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh was reported in the dailies announcing that Abbas has called for an urgent meeting of the Palestinian leadership on Thursday at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that former Nablus mayor Bassam Shakaa was laid to his rest in the West Bank city.
Al-Quds highlighted a Peace Now report revealing that at least 16 Israeli settler outposts have been established in the West Bank since 2017.
It also reported that Israeli media is demanding that Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III cease his PR campaign against Israeli settlers.
Member of Fatah Central Committee Hussein al-Sheikh was reported in al-Ayyam stating that Abbas is slated to meet Jordan’s King Abdullah II today.
Premier Mohammad Shtayyeh was reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida pledging to reinforce the resilience of Palestinians in Jerusalem in the face of ethnic cleansing.
According to al-Ayyam, a Palestinian young man sustained injuries after fending off an Israeli settlers’ attempt to seize a plot of land in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.
It said that Israeli police detained a number of Palestinians and summoned others from Jerusalem after a Saudi blogger visiting the Old City of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa compound on an Israeli-sponsored visa was chased and driven out by Palestinians.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported Turkey and Jordan reiterating that the two-state solution that ends the Israeli occupation and ensures the establishment of the Palestinian state is the only way towards peace.
It said that the Palestinian ambassador to France Salman ElHerfi handed over letters from President Abbas to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.
It said that Secretary-General of the PLO Executive Committee Saeb Erekat addressed letters to foreign ministers worldwide about illegal house demolitions carried out by Israel in Sur Baher.
It reported that Mustafa al-Hasnat, a Palestinian prisoner in Israeli jails, has been on a hunger strike for 23 days and his health condition is worsening.
Regionally, al-Quds said that a delegation from the Palestinian group Hamas met Iranian Supreme Leader’s top foreign policy adviser Ali Akbar Velayati in Tehran.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Jordan denies Israeli allegations of an agreement to close Bab al-Rahma prayer area inside Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
Al-Ayyam highlighted US Middle East envoy Jason Greenblatt’s remarks indicating that US President Donald Trump will decide soon when to release his plan, dubbed deal of the century.
