RAMALLAH, Sunday, July 21, 2019 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas’ statement on the “deal of the century”, the Manama Workshop and the Palestinian tax revenues withheld by Israel, hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that President Abbas reiterated during a meeting of the Fatah Central Committee in the West Bank city of Ramallah his firm opposition to the “deal of the century” or the US peace plan.
“Our position in the past is our position now and has not changed: We will not accept the deal of the century and will not accept the Manama Workshop,” he said in reference to the Manama Workshop held earlier this month under US patronage in Bahrain.
President Abbas also said that the Palestinian leadership will not accept the tax revenues, collected by Israel on behalf of the Palestinians, if it was not paid in full.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that President Abbas and the Palestinian people in general celebrated last night Algeria win of the Africa Cup after defeating Senegal 1 – 0 in the final game played in Cairo.
President Abbas congratulated Algeria for the win, expressing “his pride in the achievement of the Algerian team that brought joy to the hearts of tens of millions of Algerians and Arabs in general and our Palestinian people in particular.”
On a different subject, Al-Ayyam and al-Quds said that many Palestinians suffocated from teargas when Israeli forces attacked those taking part in a rally protesting the planned demolition of hundreds of apartments in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Wadi al-Hummus.
The papers added that journalist Ayat Arqawi, who works as a photojournalist with APA agency, was hit and injured by a gas canister in her pelvis.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that the Palestinian Journalists‘ Syndicate (PJS) its position that opposes any meetings between Palestinian journalists and officials from the administration of US President Donald Trump.
It said in a statement reiterating an earlier similar position that it was following closely attempts by the US embassy in Israel to invite Palestinian journalists for meetings with US officials, including Jared Kushner, senior advisor to Trump and his son-in-law and author of the so-called Deal of the Century, strongly opposed by the Palestinians for being overly biased toward Israel.
Al-Quds said that US Democratic Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib will not be denied entry into Israel.
It said a total of 60,000 families in the Gaza Strip will receive cash money fund from the Qatari Committee.
