RAMALLAH, Saturday, July 20, 2019 (WAFA) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian people in general celebrated last night Algeria win of the Africa Cup after defeating Senegal 1 – 0 in the final game played in Cairo.
President Abbas congratulated Algeria for the win, expressing “his pride in the achievement of the Algerian team that brought joy to the hearts of tens of millions of Algerians and Arabs in general and our Palestinian people in particular.”
The president, as well as Palestinians in general, watched the football game live on their TV screens and applauded the only goal in the game scored by Algeria. The last and only time Algeria won the Africa Cup was in 1990.
Palestinians feel a special affiliation with Algeria, particularly its football fans that stood by the Palestinian people in their struggle for independence and freedom from the Israeli occupation.
