BAGHDAD, Tuesday, July 16, 2019 (WAFA) Prime Minister Mohamed Shtayyeh and the accompanying Palestinian delegation met today at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad Iraqi President Saleh Barham where they discussed the latest political developments, according to a statement by Shtayyeh’s office.
The Prime Minister conveyed the greetings of President Mahmoud Abbas to his Iraqi counterpart, stressing the importance of strengthening relations between their two countries in all fields while praising Iraq‘s positions in supporting the Palestinian cause at various levels.
"Iraq’s resurgence and bolstering its role in the region is an element of strength for Palestine in the region and the world as well,” said Shtayyeh. “The Arab nation must maintain the Palestinian cause as a priority matter and not turn its attention at minor conflicts. Arab unity must be maintained on the ground and all efforts must be directed at ending the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian land,” he said.
"We want to implement the memorandums of understanding and agreements between our two countries and put them into effect, particularly in the fields of agriculture, industry and trade, in line with the government‘s strategy and its decision to gradually break away from the occupying power by opening up to international markets, especially Arab countries, and bolstering the Palestinian product and marketing it worldwide," he said.
For his part, Barham stressed Iraq‘s support for the Palestinian people to ensure a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, pointing out Iraq‘s keenness to see the Palestinians who live in Iraq enjoying their full legitimate rights and safeguarding all their benefits.
