RAMALLAH, Monday, July 15, 2019 (WAFA) – Israeli police raid and removing contents of Bab al-Rahma prayer area inside the compound of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem’s Old City was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.
Israel has been trying to prevent Muslim worshippers from using Bab al-Rahma mosque in what Palestinians fear is an attempt to turn it into a Jewish temple despite its location inside the walled Muslim holy compound referred to as Al-Haram Al Sharif and also known as Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
In other news, al-Quds reported a story about a Palestinian from occupied East Jerusalem who owns a plot of land in Hebron in the south of the West Bank and which has been targeted by Israeli settlers protected by soldiers and police. It said the Palestinian, identified as Abdul Samad Jaber, reported settlers raiding and working on his 25-dunum land located near the illegal Kiryat Arba settlement even though he has deeds proving his ownership of the land in order to take it over.
It said Israel is going to install a biometric system at the crossings and roads in the West Bank to identify faces in violation of human rights.
It also quoted former Israeli chief of staff Moshe Yaalon saying his Blue-White party is going to enforce Israeli law in the occupied territories if it wins the upcoming Israeli elections.
Al-Ayyam said that the Palestinian factions in Gaza are waiting for an Israeli response to their demands carried by an Egyptian security delegation.
It also quoted the French Consul General in Jerusalem saying in an interview with the newspaper that there is no benefit from aid to Palestine without a political horizon.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted President Mahmoud Abbas expressing in a letter he sent to his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron on French National Day his wishes that France would succeed in its efforts to push forward peace in the Middle East.
It also said that Fatah’s Advisory Council called on Hamas to implement the 2017 agreement.
It quoted the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics saying that there is a decline in the quality of university education in Palestine and that unemployment among graduates is over 50 percent.
