RAMALLAH, Sunday, July 14, 2019 (WAFA) – Fatah‘s Advisory Council today called on the United Nations to bear the budget of its subsidiary, the agency responsible for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, to relieve it from being dependent on donor money for its survival and humanitarian services.
The Advisory Council concluded today its second regular session held at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah by stressing Palestinian rejection of the American so-called Deal of the Century and demanding the establishment of the independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
It discussed the United States cutting off aid from UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, in an attempt to end its role in providing humanitarian services to five million Palestine refugees in the occupied Palestinian territories, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, a task it has been entrusted with since 1950, as a prelude to ending the Palestinian refugee issue.
It stressed the need to include UNRWA‘s budget on the budget of the United Nations as one of its official agencies in order to end its dependence on donations and extortion, as is the case with the US, so that the Agency can carry out its moral and legal responsibilities until the Palestinian refugees are able to return to their homeland in accordance with UN General Assembly Resolution 194 of 1949.
The Council listened in its opening session to a speech by President Mahmoud Abbas, chairman of Fatah, which covered the internal situation in Fatah and in Palestine in general as well as the situation with the Deal of the Century and the results of the failed Manama workshop.
The president talked about relations with the current US administration, stressing that it will not return to normal unless the administration recognizes the terms of reference of peace and UN resolutions, and going back on its decision on Jerusalem as capital and part of Israel as well as commitment to a two-state solution.
The Council also listened to reports from Fatah Central Committee on the internal situation of the movement and the relations with the Palestinian factions and forces and the internal Palestinian relations, especially with regard to the restoration of national unity and the implementation of all agreements reached with Hamas and all Palestinian factions in October 2017.
