RAMALLAH, Sunday, July 14, 2019 (WAFA) –President Mahmoud Abbas discussed with an Egyptian security delegation yesterday the importance of Egypt’s efforts in consolidating the Gaza-Israel ceasefire and bringing about intra-Palestinian national reconciliation.
During a meeting at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah, the West Bank, the President stressed the importance of joint Arab efforts to protect the unified Arab position regarding the Arab Peace Initiative, which has been underlined in various Arab summits.
President Abbas also thanked the Egyptian people and leadership for their continued support to the Palestinian people, including efforts on Arab, regional and international levels to achieve Palestinian political and financial sovereignty.
He said he values Egypt‘s role in achieving Palestinian national reconciliation and internal unity under the frame of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
Major-General Ayman Badee, who led the delegation, told the President that Egypt is following closely on the Israeli actions, including its continued settlement activities, excavations in occupied East Jerusalem and the home demolition and eviction orders against Palestinians.
Badee stressed the Egyptian stance on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, adding that the peace process should be in line with the two-state solution, international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative aimed at ending the Israeli occupation and creating a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
