RAMALLAH, Thursday, July 11, 2019 (WAFA) – The forceful eviction of a Palestinian family from its home in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan in order to turn it over to settlers as per an Israeli court order was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies today.
The main front page headline in al-Hayat al-Jadida that went across the page with a picture of a woman member of the Siyam household that lost its home crying said: “Settlements ravage south of Jerusalem and settlers seize home in Silwan.”
The headline in al-Ayyam said: “A family was evicted from its home in Silwan for the benefit of settlers; a decision to build 216 new settlement units south of Jerusalem.” The paper printed the same picture as al-Hayat al-Jadida.
It also said that Israeli forces demolished a memorial in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiyeh built in memory of Mohammad Obeid, 21, who was shot dead in the neighborhood by Israeli police two weeks ago. Israel also demolished structures in Jerusalem and Hebron and settlers set fire to hundreds of olive trees in Burin village, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, said the paper.
Al-Quds headlined its main front page story: “ElAd settlement group seizes home and land for the Siyam family in Silwan.” It printed a picture of settlers at the home.
In other news, al-Quds said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said no settlement will be removed from the occupied West Bank.
It said that Israeli settlers and intelligence officers keep forcing their way into Al-Aqsa Mosque as the Muslim Waqf in charge of the mosque sets up a committee to investigate removal of contents from Bab al-Rahma prayer area within the mosque compound.
It said number of Palestinians worldwide is around 13 million, according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics marking International Population Day.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh saying that his government is looking for a way out of its financial crisis but that the root solution is in Israel releasing all the Palestinian clearance funds.
It said the government and China have signed an agreement in which China is going to provide aid to needy Palestinian families.
It also quoted Saeb Erekat, a senior Palestinian official, saying those who support settlements, occupation and war crimes are not qualified as mediators.
The paper said the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has rejected an invitation by Jason Greenblatt, the US envoy, for Palestinian journalists to visit the White House.
It featured a story on the Jordan Valley, saying it an area for confrontation.
Al-Ayyam said Israel sentenced two 18-year-old Palestinians to over 35 and 33 years in prison and over $700,000 fine each after it convicted them of killing an Israeli soldier in February 2016.
It said, based on Israeli reports, that Boris Johnson, who is a contender for prime minister of the United Kingdom, told reporters that he is a Zionist to the bone and that Israel is the great country he loves.
