Minister of health urges ICRC to facilitate Palestinian doctors‘ visits to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, July 09, 2019 (WAFA) - Minister of Health Mai Alkaila urged the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to facilitate Palestinian doctors‘ visits to Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, and allow them to ascertain their medical and health needs, and to conduct the necessary medical examination to ensure that they receive proper medical care.

The minister pointed out during a meeting with David Quesne, the head of the ICRC Mission in occupied Jerusalem, that this request falls within the human rights of prisoners in accordance with international norms and laws which guarantee the right of prisoners to receive appropriate health care.

For his part, Quesne stressed the very difficult situation in Palestine due to the complexity of the political situation. He said that the ICRC faces difficulty in defending and implementing international humanitarian law, stressing that the ICRC is ready to intervene at any time in case the situation requires.
