RAMALLAH, Sunday, June 30, 2019 (WAFA) – News about the continued crackdown carried out by Israeli forces recently on the Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Issawiyeh hit the front pages of the three Arabic Palestinian dailies on Sunday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida, al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Israeli forces raided for the fourth time the occupied East Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Issawiyeh in an ongoing crackdown that has left one Palestinian killed and at least 70 others injured.
Remarks made by US President Donald Trump were also reported in the dailies.
He said that the political side of his peace plan will be unveiled after the Israeli elections, stressing that a Palestinian-Israeli peace agreement will never happen if not during his presidency.
Responding to Trump’s remarks, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, said that these remarks are not encouraging and indicate that the US administration has not learnt anything from the fiasco of the Manama workshop, as reported in the three papers.
"The stunning failure of the Manama workshop, despite the policy of punishment and intimidation used by the Trump administration against everyone, should constitute a clear message to Mr. Trump and his administration that the policy of dictates, threats and coercion is no longer effective with our steadfast people and its legitimate leadership headed by President Mahmoud Abbas, which rejected all suspicious deals aimed at the liquidation of our national cause,” said Abu Rudeineh in a statement.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that President Abbas and Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri spoke through a phone conversation, where Abbas briefed Hariri on the latest developments on the Palestinian ground.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said Israeli authorities threatened to impose sanctions on Hamas in case incendiary balloons and kites keep being fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said that Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation won a number of awards in the festival of the Arab States Broadcasting Union.
