RAMALLAH, Wednesday, June 26, 2019 (WAFA) – Palestinian rallies against the US-crafted economic workshop held in Bahrain’s capital, Manama, dominated the front page headlines in Wednesday’s issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
Al-Quds said that Palestinians joined a general strike in the besieged Gaza Strip and took to the streets in various West Bank cities in rejection of the Bahrain workshop.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that the Palestinian people in the occupied territories and the diaspora continued their mass mobilization against the Bahrain workshop and in support of President Mahmoud Abbas’ position.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam added in this regard that Israeli forces opened fire on the protests, injuring a number of protestors.
Additionally, senior White House advisor Jared Kushner’s remarks during the opening of the workshop also hit the front page headlines in the dailies.
Kushner was reported in al-Quds urging Palestinians to seize the “opportunity of the century” to achieve peace through economy.
He was also quoted in al-Quds saying: “economic growth and prosperity for the Palestinian people are not possible without an enduring and fair political solution to the conflict — one that guarantees Israel’s security and respects the dignity of the Palestinian people.”
Kushner’s “opportunity of the century” refers to the US-touted Mideast plan whose real purpose is to force Palestinians to submission to perpetual Israeli domination.
Al-Ayyam said in this regard that Kushner opened the Manama workshop, talking about guaranteeing Israel’s security but without saying a word about the Palestinian people’s independence or freedom.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida elaborated that Kushner attempts to revive his dead workshop through renaming the ‘deal of the century’ and presenting fictitious figures in a hall that had a very low turnout of participants.
The dailies said that donors pledged $110 million for the United Nations agency responsible for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA).
They said that President Abbas expressed his appreciation to Saudi Arabia for its positions supporting the Palestinian cause.
According to al-Ayyam, a power generator at Gaza’s sole power plant went out of operation after Israel blocked fuel to deliveries.
Al-Quds reported that Israeli human rights organization Gisha slamming Israel’s blocking of fuel deliveries to Gaza’s power plant as an illegal vicious step.
It said that 140 Israeli settlers forced their way into Jerusalem’s flashpoint Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.
It also reported that Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh considers meeting President Abbas in Gaza or Cairo.
Furthermore, al-Ayyam covered Max Boot’s column A Middle East peace plan only a developer could love in the Washington Post.
It also covered Reuters’ reports Palestinian refugees say Trump cannot bury right of return and Trump Mideast plan hits nerve in Lebanon, stirs old fears.
Al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted the CNN’s interview with Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh.
Shtayyeh was reported in al-Ayyam blaming the Palestinian financial crisis on the Israeli occupation measures and the US financial war against the Palestinian Authority.
Presidential advisor Nabil Abu Rudeineh was reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida reiterating that the Manama workshop was “stillborn” and that there would be no peace without the Arab Peace Initiative and the UN Security Council’s resolutions.
