RAMALLAH, Monday, June 24, 2019 (WAFA) – On the eve of the American-sponsored economic meeting in Bahrain, the three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted today Palestinian, Arab and international reaction to that event, which is rejected and boycotted by the Palestinians as a conspiracy to end their struggle for freedom and independence.
President Mahmoud Abbas said the Manama meeting will not succeed, as reported in al-Quds daily, which also said that a general strike has been called for in Gaza against the meeting, while al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida said in their main front page story that the Arabs reject the American economic plan as ludicrous, unrealistic and a waste of time.
Al-Quds also quoted the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) saying that it has not authorized anyone to participate in the Manama meeting or to negotiate on behalf of the Palestinian people.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the PLO reiterated its rejection of the Manama meeting, while al-Ayyam said the PLO welcomed Egypt’s resumption of intra-Palestinian reconciliation efforts.
The three dailies also reported on the meeting of the Arab finance ministers in Cairo and their decision to activate a financial net for the Palestinians amounting to $100 million every month.
Al-Ayyam also said Israeli forces attacked a young boy and an elderly man in Hebron while razing land south of Bethlehem and destroying structures in the village of Qaffin.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida and Al-Quds reported on these Israeli acts with al-Quds also adding that Israel has reduced the fishing area in Gaza as part of its collective punishment policy.
It said in a report by its Bethlehem correspondent that the Israeli army is trying to recruit Palestinians to work for it as collaborators by luring them with permits to enter or work in Israel.
