Fatah official: The next prime minister will be decided through consultation with the factions

RAMALLAH, Monday, January 28, 2019 (WAFA) - The decision on who is going to be the prime minister of the new government will be reached in consultations with the factions of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), according to Mahmoud Aloul, deputy chairman of Fatah movement.

He stressed in an interview on Palestine TV aired on Sunday night that formation of a new government does not mean that the current government of Rami Hamdallah is not good, or that the next one is better, but that the issue has to do with a phase that has ended and a new one that is forthcoming.

Aloul said Fatah movement is in constant contact with all the factions, but that official dialogue on the new government will begin today because “our goal is to form a government of the PLO faction with the participation of everyone.”

He stressed that the Central Committee did not discuss in its meeting any names for a prime minister but that it took the decision in principle of forming a political partisan government.

He pointed out that a committee composed of Fatah Central Committee members Hussein al-Sheikh, Rawhi Fattouh, Azzam al-Ahmad and Tawfiq Tirawi and the secretary of Fatah Revolutionary Council Majid al-Fitiani was set up to start the dialogue with the PLO factions on forming a government, explaining that the next government is not linked to the elections.
