Premier places his government at the disposal of the president

RAMALLAH, Monday, January 28, 2019 (WAFA) - Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah Monday placed his government at the disposal of President Mahmoud Abbas, said government spokesman Yousef al-Mahmoud.

He said the Prime Minister and members of the cabinet have welcomed the recommendations of Fatah Central Committee to form a new government.

The Central Committee recommended in a meeting chaired by President Abbas and held in Ramallah on Sunday to form a new government composed of the factions of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to replace the current national reconciliation government.

The recommendation came after reconciliation talks with Hamas have failed to consolidate unity and end more than 12 years of division between the West Bank and Gaza, which is under Hamas rule following its coup against the Palestinian Authority in July 2007, and after the Constitutional Court ruled in December to dissolve the inactive Palestinian Legislative Council and hold new legislative elections within six months.

Fatah, the ruling party, has also said that a committee will be formed from among its members to start dialogue with the PLO factions on the formation of the new government.

Mahmoud said “the Prime Minister and the members of the National Reconciliation Government have expressed their confidence in the success of efforts to form a new government that will shoulder the concerns of our people and continues on the path of restoring national unity, ending the division and moving ahead on the road to freedom and independence.”
