Newspapers Review: Israeli army raid of Ramallah and WAFA office focus of dailies

 

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, December 11, 2018 (WAFA) – The Israeli army raid into the heart of Ramallah on Monday and soldiers breaking into the offices of the official Palestinian news agency, WAFA, was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Tuesday.

The papers highlighted the raid that started in the morning and almost reached the center of the city by the evening before the army had left the Ramallah after seizing tapes from surveillance cameras installed at various buildings, including WAFA.

The papers quoted the presidency condemning the raid and saying that crucial decisions are going to be taken to stop the Israeli army incursions into the Palestinian-controlled cities.

The papers also said dozens of people were injured when confronting the soldiers in Ramallah and in several other Palestinian cities raided by the army.

Al-Quds quoted Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah saying during a visit to Jenin in the north of the West Bank that “we have one mission and that is to strengthen the capability of our people to confront the Israeli violations and American decisions.”

It also said in other news that Israel is planning to annex the Jordan Valley and parts of Area C of the occupied West Bank.

It said video tapes refuted the Israeli army’s claims regarding the killing of Husam Habali, the 23-year-old handicapped resident of Tulkarm shot dead by Israeli soldiers during a night raid of the city last week.

Al-Quds said staff of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) received Commissioner-General Pierre Krahenbuhl with protests in Gaza.

Al-Ayyam quoted Krahenbuhl saying UNRWA is facing next year a challenge to renew the Agency’s operations for the next three years.

It quoted the Qatari official, Mohammad Amadi, saying that Qatar offered on Israel to build an airport in Gaza that will be under\Qatari supervision.

It said the Palestinian Al-Haq human rights organization along with the Israel rights group, B’Tselem, received the 2018 Human Rights Award of the French Republic.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the European Union contributed 12.6 million euros for deprived Palestinian families on social welfare.
