Newspapers Review: Soldiers killing a Palestinian south of Bethlehem focus of dailies

 

RAMALLAH, Tuesday, November 27, 2018 (WAFA) – The Israeli soldiers‘ killing of a Palestinian following an alleged car-ramming attack near the West Bank town of Beit Ummar, north of Hebron, dominated the front page headlines in the Palestinian dailies on Tuesday.

The dailies reported that a Palestinian paramedic from Dheisheh refugee camp identified as Ramzi Abu Yabes, 32, a father of two, was shot dead after he purportedly ran into soldiers.

The crackdown against members of Fatah movement and Palestinian security in East Jerusalem also hit the front page headlines in the dailies.

According to al-Ayyam, Israeli forces also detained 17 Palestinians in multiple overnight raids across the West Bank.

Additionally, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that an Israeli court rejected an appeal against the extension of the detention of the Palestinian Governor of Jerusalem Adnan Ghaith, who was detained from his home in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan early Sunday morning, allegedly for being involved in the arrest and investigation of a Palestinian merchant who sold lands to Israeli settlers.

Furthermore, al-Quds said that dozens of Palestinians suffered from tear gas inhalation as Israeli forces and navy opened fire at a protest north of Gaza sea coast.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida added that three others were shot and injured with live ammunition and rubber-coated steel bullets. According to al-Ayyam, the casualties were two paramedics and a female reporter.

Moreover, al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported that Israeli bulldozers demolished a Palestinian house in Mariha village near the northern West Bank town of Yaabad, southwest of Jenin.

According to al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida, Israeli forces delivered demolition notices for three houses belonging to Palestinian brothers in al-Khalidiya locality near Yatta town, south of Hebron.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam said that Israeli settlers and forces seized a Palestinian-owned plot of land in Jalud village, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

Regarding US President Donald Trump’s Mideast vision, al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported US ambassador to Israel David Friedman stating that the so-called Deal of the Century would be announced at the appropriate time.

According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, President Mahmoud Abbas is scheduled to visit Italy on December 2.

Highlighting progress on Egyptian efforts to achieve intra-Palestinian reconciliation, al-Quds reported that Fatah delegation has left Cairo after being briefed about Hamas’ vision on reconciliation.

Palestine’s Permanent Observer to the United Nations Riyad Mansour was reported in al-Quds and al-Ayyam highlighting Palestinian official efforts to foil a US draft resolution that condemns Hamas at the United Nations General Assembly.

Al-Quds and al-Ayyam covered Czech President Milos Zeman’s statements during his visit to Israel.
