NEW YORK, September 25, 2018 (WAFA) - Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will open and address on Wednesday in New York an international consultative meeting called for by the State of Palestine, which will be held in close cooperation with international partners to coordinate efforts and address threats facing the two-state solution, said Foreign Minister Riyad Malki on Tuesday.

He said the purpose of this meeting is to jointly defend the values and principles consistent with the rules of international law and its terms of reference, as provided for in the Charter of the United Nations.

"In the absence of a credible and meaningful political process, the State of Palestine must take the initiative to protect the two-state solution and protect the integrity of international law by working and coordinating efforts and positions with the international partners," Malki said in a statement.

He said "there is a vested interest in the international community to take bold and positive measures to achieve the two-state solution in the context of a meaningful political process that would defend and protect those measures, the international system based on rights and the norms of international law."

Malki said that President Abbas is going to present the meeting with the views of the State of Palestine on all these issues and ways to protect the two-state solution. He said that the meeting will include deliberations and interventions reflecting the shared values of countries in respecting and ensuring respect for international law and the importance of enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
