PM Mustafa meets Italian Senate delegation; stresses ending Israeli aggression and occupation as key to reviving peace efforts

RAMALLAH, May 14, 2025 (WAFA) -- Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa met on Wednesday with a delegation from the Italian Senate headed by Senator Stefania Craxi, President of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defense, at his office in Ramallah. The meeting was attended by Italian Consul General in Jerusalem, Mr. Domenico Bellato.

Prime Minister Mustafa briefed the delegation on the latest developments in Palestine and the difficult conditions facing the Palestinian people, including the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, the continued obstruction of humanitarian aid for more than two months, and the continued aggression by Israeli occupation forces and settlers across the West Bank, including Jerusalem.

He also highlighted the financial siege imposed on the Palestinians by the occupying Power, Israel, including the illegal deductions from Palestinian tax revenues.

The Prime Minister emphasized that an immediate end to the Israeli aggression on Gaza, a full withdrawal, and the cessation of aggression and attacks in the West Bank are essential prerequisites for reviving peace efforts and implementing the two-State solution and the realization of the independent Palestinian state.

He reaffirmed support for all efforts aimed at ending the aggression and achieving a ceasefire in Gaza, alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people, and facilitating the delivery of urgent humanitarian assistance.

“We commend all efforts and positions that call for a ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip,” he said. “Greater international pressure is needed to stop the ongoing tragedy and suffering. It is unacceptable for the world to allow the famine in Gaza to persist.”

Mustafa further expressed appreciation for Italy’s continued humanitarian and relief efforts in support of the Palestinian people in Gaza, and for voicing readiness to contribute to Gaza’s reconstruction once the aggression ends.

He also praised the strong and outstanding bilateral relations between Palestine and Italy and the shared aspiration to further enhance cooperation at all levels.

The Italian delegation, for their part, affirmed Italy’s support for all efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and stressed the urgent need to ensure the flow of humanitarian and relief aid.

They reiterated Italy’s steadfast commitment to promoting peace, stability, and development in the region, and to upholding international and international humanitarian laws and shared values.
