Ramallah observes International Car Free Day by organizing a day of cycling

RAMALLAH, September 20, 2018 (WAFA) – The City of Ramallah is going to observe on Friday the International Car Free Day to encourage Palestinians to use bicycles and walking instead of their cars, a press release said on Thursday.

It said it is cooperating with the local Cycling Palestine group in encouraging Palestinians to use bicycles instead of driving on this day “to create healthier habits and less polluted environment.”

It also aims at studying the possibility of turning some areas in Ramallah into pedestrian and bicycles only zones.

The activity, for people 16 years old and above, is going to start at 9 a.m. at Nelson Mandela Square in al-Tira neighborhood of Ramallah and finish at 11 a.m. Participants can bring their own bicycle or rent one if needed.

Car Free Day is an international event celebrated every September 22 in which people are encouraged to get around without driving and use instead a bicycle, bus, train, or even walking.
