RAMALLAH, September 16, 2018 (WAFA) - French Consul-General in Jerusalem Pierre Cochard Sunday reiterated his country‘s position in support of the two-state solution.

"The two-state solution meets the aspirations of the Palestinian people for self-determination and achieves security for the Israelis," said Cochard during a meeting held in Ramallah in the presence of Gilbert Roger, French Socialist Party Senator and Head of France-Palestine Amity Group.

For his part, Roger warned about the increased settlement activities in the West Bank, pointing out that this issue is worrisome for France.

He described the peace process as being in trouble, rejecting the US transfer of its Embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem, its recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, cutting off of US aid funds to various institutions, including UNRWA, and the closure of the PLO office in Washington.

Regarding the Palestinian Bedouin village of Khan al-Ahmar, Roger said: "We decided to visit the village of Khan Al-Ahmar, threatened by demolition by the Israeli occupation, to prove to Israel that France is still seeking a two-state solution."

Khan al-Ahmar is one of the Palestinian communities Israel is threatening with demolition and forcible transfer in Area C, which constitutes 60 percent of the occupied West Bank and falls under full Israeli military rule under the terms of the Oslo Accords.
