RAMALLAH, September 15, 2018 (WAFA) – The March of Return protests in Gaza and the vigil at Khan al-Ahmar in the West Bank were highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Saturday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said in its main front page story headline that went across the page: “Three martyrs in Gaza and citizens confront the occupation with their own bodies in Khan al-Ahmar”.
Al-Ayyam gave prominence to the events at the Gaza border with Israel and said three Palestinians were killed and 248 injured from Israeli army gunfire. It said that the Israeli army opened artillery fire along the border with Gaza to control the protests.
The paper reported lower on the page on the developments at Khan al-Ahmar and said that residents and supporters confronted with their own bodies the bulldozers of the occupation.
Al-Quds also separated the news from Gaza and the West Bank and highlighted on the front page the Gaza story adding also that fire broke out at Israeli locations along the Gaza border due to incendiary balloons released from the Gaza side of the border.
On the Khan al-Ahmar developments, the paper said a foreign activist went on hunger strike until Israel goes back on its demolition plan.
Al-Quds also reported on US pressure on the Palestinians to enter into negotiations with Israel and said that Jared Kushner, son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, considers the US sanctions as serving peace.
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted Palestinian officials saying that Washington’s sanctions have poisoned Palestinian-American relations, as said by Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman for President Mahmoud Abbas, and that whatever Trump does, he will not stop the creation of the Palestinian state and the US policies are bound to fail, as said by Saeb Erekat, a Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) official.
Al-Ayyam quoted Kushner saying that the Palestinians deserve to lose their financial support while his assistant, Jason Greenblatt, focused on the economic part of the American ‘ultimate” plan, which has not been made public yet.
The paper said the PLO office in Washington closed its doors and ended all work as per the US decision to close it and President Abbas is going to head a PLO Executive Committee meeting in Ramallah later Saturday.
Al-Quds said Israeli police have intensified their presence around Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem as more than 50,000 Muslims attended the Friday prayer at the holy compound.
It also said in another story that security guards at the Israeli Share Tzedek Hospital in West Jerusalem delayed arrival of a Red Crescent ambulance carrying a Palestinian youth in critical condition to the hospital’s emergency ward and told the medics who protested the delay: “let him die.”
Al-Quds and al-Hayat al-Jadida reported on an article that appeared in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz in which an Israeli historian said that Nazi Germany was like Israel today.
