RAMALLAH, September 14, 2018 (WAFA) – The demolition of the recently-built wooden and steel protest huts, known as Wadi al-Ahmar, near the Palestinian Bedouin community of Khan al-Ahmar dominated the front page headlines in Palestinian Arabic dailies on Friday.
The dailies reported that Israeli occupation authorities took down and demolished Wadi al-Ahmar.
Al-Quds added that hundreds of activists continued to carry out a sit-in in al-Khan al-Ahmar village, the fate of which has become a focus of Palestinian protests and international concern.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida reported villagers of Khan al-Ahmar vowing that they would not leave their homes.
The dailies also reported the European Parliament passed a resolution warning Israel of the serious consequences of the demolition of Khan al-Ahmar.
According to al-Hayat al-Jadida, the European Parliament called for a firm EU’s response to Israeli policies undermining the viability of the two-state solution and the demolition of EU-funded infrastructure in Area C.
On the other hand, al-Hayat al-Jadida opted to highlight President Mahmoud Abbas’ remarks during a meeting with a delegation of Jewish, Christian and Muslim religious figures at his office in Ramallah.
Abbas was reported in al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida stating: “Palestine is a model for coexistence and social peace”.
They added that Abbas met with Qatari ambassador, Muhammad al-Emadi, who also serves as the Chairman of the Qatari Committee for Gaza Reconstruction, at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
According to al-Quds, Israel has denied entry to US Jewish woman activist because she had visited Khan al-Ahmar.
Additionally, al-Quds said that Israeli naval boats opened fire at Palestinian fishermen off the coast of the northern besieged Gaza Strip.
Al-Quds and al-Ayyam added that Israeli military vehicles advanced dozens of meters, infiltrating Gaza border to the east of Rafah.
Al-Ayyam also reported that Israeli forces blew up a suspicious object to the east of Rafah, while Palestinian protestors set fire to borderline military outposts.
Moreover, the dailies spotlighted Israeli occupation authorities’ decision to seize 1,079 dunums of Palestinian-owned land belonging to Ras al-Ahmar area in the northern Jordan Valley. Al-Ayyam added that Palestinian landowners are not allowed to contest the Israeli decision.
Covering other Israeli attacks against Palestinians, al-Ayyam said that Israeli settlers burned 200 olive trees belonging to Minya town, south of Bethlehem.
Al-Ayyam said that settlers closed the main entrance to al-Lubban Ash-Sharqiya village, south of Nablus, while al-Hayat al-Jadida added that Israeli forces delivered demolition orders for several homes in the same village.
The two dailies also reported that settlers punctured and vandalized a number of Palestinian-owned vehicles in Jalud village, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
They added that settlers spray-painted racist anti-Palestinian graffiti on walls of Palestinian homes before leaving the village.
Highlighting detention raids, they reported that Israeli forces conducted multiple overnight raids across the West Bank, detaining 13 Palestinians.
Yet, al-Quds said that Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah and Chairman of the PLO Refugees Affairs Department Amhad Abu Holi discussed with UNRWA Commissioner General Pierre Krahenbuhl mechanism to mobilize financial support to help the UN relief agency.
It highlighted media claims that US President Donald Trump offered $10 billion in aid to the Palestinian Authority if it returns to the negotiating table with Israel. According to al-Ayyam, he offered the Palestinian leadership $5 billion.
Al-Ayyam the US Department of State announcing that the US Consulate in Jerusalem would continue to serve as an independent mission in charge of relations with the Palestinians.
In addition, al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted the letter published by 159 worldwide scientists, scholars and doctors in the Lancet, one of the foremost medical journalists, in support of the UNRWA.
It reported Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil reiterating that his country refuses to grant citizenship to Palestinian refugees and that the right of return would remain sacred.
