RAMALLAH, September 8, 2018 (WAFA) – The weekly protests at the Gaza border with Israel and the Israeli army killing of a young Palestinian were highlighted on the front page of the Saturday issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.
The papers also said that a second Gaza Palestinian has died on Friday as a result of wounds sustained a month ago also during border protests.
They said in addition, more than 400 were wounded when the Israeli army stationed at the border opened fire at thousands of Palestinian protesters.
The papers also reported on the protests in the West Bank against the Israeli occupation, with emphasis on Khan al-Ahmar, which Israel intends to demolish in the very near future to build a settlement on its ruins.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said activists keeping a vigil at Khan al-Ahmar village, east of Jerusalem, confronted Israeli settlers who came to the area to push their government to remove the village and displace its residents.
Al-Ayyam said the European Union has warned that destroying Khan al-Ahmar undermines the two-state solution.
Al-Quds reported on pro-Israel remarks by US President Donald Trump and his envoy Jason Greenblatt while threatening not to give any aid to the Palestinians until they reach a deal with Israel.
The three papers quoted Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), saying that the Palestinians made a mistake in Oslo by not pressing Israel to recognize a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.
Al-Quds quoted Erekat describing the US ambassador to Israel as a real estate agent and a bankruptcy lawyer.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted PLO Executive Committee member Ahmad Majdalani saying the American team to the Middle East work as consultants for the Israeli government.
Al-Ayyam said the US is exerting pressure on Paraguay to go back on its decision to take its embassy back to Tel Aviv after it moved it to Jerusalem in May.
It said in another story that Egypt informed Hamas that it agrees with President Mahmoud Abbas that reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah should be reached first before a truce agreement with Israel.
