MADRID, September 5, 2018 (WAFA) – Foreign Minister Riyad Malki met in Madrid with his Spanish counterpart Josep Borrell and the two discussed the latest political developments in the area.
Malki briefed Borrell on United States policies toward the Palestinians as well as the latest situation in the Gaza Strip and developments with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
He called for protecting UNRWA from a US campaign to end its role as service provider to more than five million Palestinian refugees.
Borrell said in a tweet that he met with Malki “to discuss the worrying humanitarian situation in Gaza, among other topics.”
He said that Spain also announced an extra contribution through the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) to UNRWA in 2018.
Malki and Borrell discussed as well Spain’s recognition of the state of Palestine. Borrell said he would discuss this matter with his European counterparts.
Malki also invited Borrell to visit Palestine and to set a date for his visit.
