RAMALLAH, September 4, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli forces Tuesday quelled a rally organized by Palestinian journalists near Ofer military prison, west of Ramallah city, causing several injuries, said WAFA correspondent.

Israeli forces fired tear gas canisters and concussion grenades at the journalists who were holding a protest rally in support of detained Palestine TV reporter Ali Dar Ali causing several cases of suffocation from tear gas inhalation. Soldiers also assaulted the journalists.

The nonviolent rally was organized by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) and the Palestinian Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) to protest the ongoing detention of Dar Ali, who has been in Israeli detention since August 15. It was intended to coincide with a court hearing for Dar Ali.

Among the protestors were General Supervisor of PBC, Minister Ahmad Assaf, chairman of PJS Nasser Abu Baker, deputy chairman of the Prisoners Affairs Commission, Amin Shoman, together with dozens of journalists.

Dar Ali was detained after an Israeli military raid at his home in Burham village, northwest of Ramallah, on charges of alleged incitement on social media.

Ofer military court remanded Dar Ali until Wednesday.
