Israel issues administrative detention orders against 64 Palestinians

RAMALLAH, September 4, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli authorities recently issued administrative detention orders against 64 Palestinians, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said on Tuesday.

PPS attorney Mohammad Halabi said Israeli authorities issued a six-month administrative detention order against Feda Da’amas, a 24-year-old woman from Hebron, under the pretext of incitement. Da’amas was physically assaulted during her arrest on May 29.

The PPS lawyer said that 31 orders were issued against Palestinian detainees for the first time or against ex-detainees who were re-detained after being released. The rest had their administrative detention renewed.

Administrative detention is the imprisonment of Palestinians without charge or trial at orders from a military commander and on the basis of secret evidence. The order normally goes for six-month periods, indefinitely renewable by Israeli military authorities.
