Al-Azhar condemns Israel’s latest settlement plans in occupied Jerusalem

CAIRO, August 27, 2018 (WAFA) - Al-Azhar, the top Islamic body, Monday condemned Israel’s increasing settlement activities, following Israel’s latest decision to construct around 2000 settlement units in occupied Jerusalem.

Al-Azhar, in a statement, stressed the illegality of Israeli settlements, stating that such false decisions constitute a flagrant violation of relevant resolutions of the international legitimacy.

Al-Azhar stressed that such decision requires the international community and its bodies to shoulder their legal and ethical responsibilities in order to put a stop to such ‘unjust’ measures.

Al-Azhar stressed that such decision is aimed at changing the demographics of Jerusalem and its Arab-Palestinian identity.

Al-Azhar reaffirmed their full support for the Palestinian people in their struggle for the liberation of their land and holy sites, first and foremost Jerusalem and its al-Aqsa mosque, urging to support Palestinians in the face of Israel’s settlement policies.
