RAMALLAH, July 27, 2018 (WAFA) – Israeli ‘Defense’ Minister Avigdor Lieberman Friday approved the construction of 400 new settler units for the illegal settlement of Adam, southeast of Ramallah city.
“The best answer to terror is a settlement expansion in the West Bank. I therefore gave instructions this morning to advance a plan to build 400 housing units in the settlement of Adam and to approve the plan in the upcoming weeks,” Lieberman said on his official Twitter account.
Lieberman’s decision came after a 17-year-old Palestinian carried out a stabbing attack in the same settlement on Tuesday evening, stabbing three settlers before being shot dead.
The attacker was later identified as Mohammad Tareq Yousef Abu Ayyush, 17, from Kobar village, north of Ramallah.
Between 500,000 and 600,000 Israelis live in Jewish-only settlements across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in violation of international law.
All settlements across the West Bank are illegal under international law, particularly article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which establishes that the occupying power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies.
