Colonist desecrates Armenian Monastery in occupied Jerusalem

JERUSALEM, May 25, 2026 (WAFA) – A video recorded four days ago near the Armenian Monastery in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem documented an Israeli colonist desecrating the site, sparking widespread anger and condemnation.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Jerusalem Governorate said the scene shown in the video constituted a blatant provocation against the feelings of Christians in the city and an assault on the sanctity of one of the Old City’s most prominent religious and historical landmarks.

The governorate added that the incident comes amid escalating attacks and violations carried out by colonists against Christian holy sites and clergy in Jerusalem, including verbal abuse, spitting incidents, physical assaults, and repeated provocations in recent periods.

It stressed that the continuation of such acts without accountability reflects a climate of impunity and encourages further violations against holy sites and religious figures in the city.

The statement called for an end to these attacks, holding those responsible accountable, and implementing deterrent measures to prevent their recurrence, in order to ensure the protection of religious holy sites in Jerusalem and preserve the city’s diverse historical and religious character.
