RAMALLAH, April 11, 2018 (WAFA) – The video showing Israeli snipers cheering after shooting an unarmed Palestinian civilian near the border fence with Gaza hit the front page headlines in Palestinian dailies on Wednesday.
The dailies reported that senior Israeli officials went out of their way to defend the behavior of the soldiers caught on the video footage laughing and cheering.
Al-Quds reported that the Israeli military defended the sniper who killed an unarmed Palestinian young man on Gaza border.
The dailies added that Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman celebrated the shooting and said: “The Gaza sniper deserves a decoration.”
Furthermore, the dailies reported that Israeli snipers shot and critically injured a Palestinian man to the east of Khan Younes in the southern part of the besieged Gaza Strip.
Al-Quds added that Israeli troops attacked a school with tear gas canisters in al-Mughayyir village, northeast of Ramallah.
According to al-Quds and al-Ayyam, Israeli occupation authorities would impose a total closure on the Palestinian territories (West Bank and Gaza) for three days starting from Tuesday.
Al-Quds said that the Prisoners’ Affairs Committee has launched a series of events across the occupied Palestinian territories to mark the Palestinian Prisoners’ Day.
Moreover, al-Quds and al-Ayyam reported Islamic Jihad movement denying reports that there its Secretary-General Ramadan Shallah, 60, fell into a coma as a result of an attempted assassination but that he had underwent open heart surgery in Lebanon.
The dailies spotlighted the Palestinian Authority’s failure to pay salaries of Gaza’s civil servants.
They reported the Finance Ministry saying in a statement that the delay was “technical.”
The Palestinian cabinet was reported in al-Quds calling on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to open an inquiry into Israeli crimes in Gaza.
The cabinet was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida slamming Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh, who delivered a speech on the Great March of Return, for further entrenching the intra-Palestinian division and attempting to mobilize the masses for his needs.
According to al-Ayyam and al-Hayat al-Jadida, Israeli bulldozers demolished a Palestinian home in Jibya village, north of Ramallah.
They added Israeli forces demolished Zanouta school in the Bedouin community to the south of Hebron.
Al-Ayyam said an autopsy conducted on Mohammad Anbar, who died at hospital days after he was shot by Israelis at a checkpoint near Tulkarm last week, showed that he was shot in the abdomen from a short distance.
The papers said Saturday is an official holiday marking al-Isra wal-Miraj Muslim holiday.
They also reported on the crisis in Syria and the possibility of an American-led attack.
