Newspapers Review: Two Palestinians die of their wounds highlight of dailies

 

RAMALLAH, April 10, 2018 (WAFA) – The death of two Palestinians who were injured and critically wounded by Israeli gunfire was highlighted on the front page of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies on Tuesday.

The papers said Marwan Qdeih, 44, from Khan Younis in Gaza died of wounds sustained when shot by Israeli soldiers during his participation in the March 30 protests at the Gaza border with Israel, and Mohammad Marshoud, from Nablus in the West Bank died in an Israeli  hospital two days after being shot by Israelis outside a Jewish settlement east of Jerusalem after he allegedly attempted to attack settlers.

The three papers also reported on the video tape showing Israeli interrogators yelling at, harassing and threatening Ahed Tamimi, 17, after her detention in December for slapping a soldier.

Al-Quds reported on a story that appeared in the Israeli daily Haaretz regarding Israeli government control over land in occupied East Jerusalem after issuing land deeds for the plots. It said this will allow Israel to control land that it says belongs to absentees.

It said in a headline that Hamas is adopting Fatah tactics in peaceful popular resistance when it called for the Great Return March to the border with Israel.

It quoted Hamas leader Ismael Haniyeh saying in Gaza that the Return March has brought the Palestinian cause to the top of the world agenda.

The paper said Moscow and Paris called for an investigation into the recent Israeli massacre against Palestinians in Gaza.

It said journalist Yasser Murtaja, who was shot dead by Israeli soldiers in Gaza on Friday, did not pose any threat to Israel and did not fly a drone as claimed by Israel’s defense minister.

Al-Ayyam said the Israeli army raided a school in the Bedouin community of Zanouta, south of Hebron, seized its furniture and proceeded to demolish it.

It also quoted Foreign Minister Riyad Malki saying that he is in touch with the International Criminal Court to start official investigation of Israeli crimes against the Palestinians.

The paper said the Muslim holy fast month of Ramadan is expected to start on May 17.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida said President Mahmoud Abbas is going to speak at the opening of the international conference on Jerusalem planned to start on Wednesday in Ramallah.

The papers also reported on the Israeli air strike on Syria and its ramifications.
