Israel blocks room in detainee’s West Bank house with concrete

JENIN, March 13, 2018 (WAFA) – The Israeli military authorities used ready mix concrete on Tuesday to block a room in the family apartment of Palestinian detainee Yousef Kmeil in Qabatiya to the south of Jenin to punish his family for its son’s role in killing an Israeli.

Kmeil family members said an Israeli force stormed the town before proceeding to block Yousef’s room with concrete.

They said the army wanted to demolish the entire apartment but because it was in a building they could not and decided to pour concrete into one room to make it inhabitable.

Yousef Kmeil was arrested for allegedly killing an Israeli in the town of Kufr Qassem inside Israel a year ago.

Deputy Governor of Jenin, Kamal Abu al-Rob, told WAFA that the Israeli forces blocked the room with more than 42 cubic meters of cement as a punishment for the entire family.

Residents clashed with the army during the raid. Dozens of people suffered suffocation due to tear gas inhalation after soldiers fired tear gas and rubber-coated metal bullets at the protesters.
