Journalists Syndicate holds set-in in Khan Yunis to protest Israel’s assassination of journalist Hassan Eslaih

KHAN YUNIS, May 13, 2025 (WAFA) – The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate organized a set-in on Tuesday in the courtyard of Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis in southern Gaza to condemn the occupation’s assassination of journalist Hassan Esliah and the continued targeting of media workers by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip.

The set-in was attended by local and international journalists, media professionals, medical staff, and human rights advocates. Participants held photos of the slain journalist and banners demanding international protection for journalists and an end to crimes committed against Palestinian media.

Deputy Head of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, Tahseen al-Astal, condemned the assassination of Esliah, stating that targeting journalists is an attempt to silence the truth and obscure Israeli crimes against civilians.

Al-Astal said that Palestinian journalists continue to pay with their lives to report the truth from the heart of the field. "What happened to our colleague Hassan Esliah is a full-fledged crime that adds to the occupation’s record of targeting journalists."

He called on the international community and human rights organizations to launch serious investigations and hold those responsible accountable. He also urged the formation of an independent and impartial international committee to investigate crimes against journalists in Gaza and document the ongoing violations aimed at silencing the Palestinian voice.

Journalist Hassan Esliah was killed in an Israeli airstrike while lying in a hospital bed recovering from a previous injury sustained about a month earlier while working in a press tent. Some of his fingers had been amputated. He is one of dozens of journalists killed since the beginning of the Israeli genocidal war on Gaza.
