RAMALLAH, March 8, 2018 (WAFA) – The three Palestinian Arabic dailies highlighted the decision by the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) to convene a meeting for the Palestinian National Council (PNC) on April 30, along with other decisions made in the meeting in Ramallah chaired by President Mahmoud Abbas.
They also highlighted the activities that accompanied marking International Women’s Day, particularly the women march to the Israeli-run Qalandia checkpoint south of Ramallah, which was crushed by force, tear gas and stun grenades forcing women to scramble for safety.
The dailies also highlighted the meeting of the Arab foreign ministers in Cairo as part of an Arab League session to prepare for the upcoming Arab summit. They said the Arab ministers expressed support for the peace vision presented by President Abbas at the United Nations Security Council on February 20.
Al-Quds daily reported on three anti-Palestinian new Israeli laws that include withdrawing Jerusalem residency from the city’s Palestinian citizens, indefinite withholding of corpses of Palestinians killed by Israel and restricting activities at funerals of Palestinians killed by the Israeli army.
It said fanatic Jewish and American organizations held wild parties in the vicinity of Al-Aqsa Mosque, a Muslim holy place, in Jerusalem’s Old City.
It also said in a different news item that Egypt informed Hamas its absolute rejection of the so-called US deal of the century. This came during the recent visit for a Hamas delegation to Cairo.
Al-Ayyam said undercover Israeli soldiers raided the campus of Birzeit University near Ramallah and abducted the head of the university’s Student Council Omar Kiswani. It said an army unit was waiting for the undercover soldiers as they pulled Kiswani off campus and threw him in a car before getting away.
It said one Palestinian refugee was killed in Shatilla refugee camp in Beirut following clashes between armed groups. Others were wounded.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida quoted a Saudi minister saying the Arab summit that was supposed to be held in March has been postponed until April.
