Detainee tells lawyer he was severely beaten by Israeli soldiers during arrest

RAMALLAH, February 27, 2018 (WAFA) – A Palestinian from Dheisheh refugee camp in Bethlehem was severely beaten by Israeli soldiers and thrown against the wall during his arrest, the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said on Tuesday.

Akram Atrash, 22, told PPS attorney Jackeline Fararjeh in an affidavit that he was at home when soldiers raided it after midnight three days ago.

He said the soldiers thoroughly searched the house and assaulted all who in it. He was also beaten by 10 soldiers, who threw him against the wall and the kitchen sink causing him injury in the head.

Atrash said he was forced to walk from the camp to Solomon’s Pools area as he was beaten continuously all over his body before he was taken to a detention center in Etzion settlement bloc and kept in the yards on a cold night for three hours, where he was also cursed and beaten.

Fararjeh said marks of beating were visible on Atrash as he was also shivering from cold weather.

Atrash, who is expected to appear at a military court in Ofer camp near Ramallah on Tuesday, was injured by the Israeli army four months ago  during a raid of Dheisheh refugee camp and was taken to a hospital in Bethlehem before being transferred to Hadassah hospital in Israel for treatment. He still needs further treatment and surgery in his arm.

A Palestinian from Jericho died last after he was arrested and severely beaten by Israeli soldiers.
