Premier says full empowerment of government in Gaza needed to consolidate reconciliation

TUBAS, February 17, 2018 (WAFA) – Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah said on Saturday that what is needed to consolidate intra-Palestinian reconciliation is for the government to be fully empowered in the Gaza Strip.

“Financial empowerment of the government, full control over the crossings, enforcing law and order, empowering the judiciary to carry out its duties and allowing the previous employees to return to their work places is what is required for the reconciliation to get hold that would end the suffering of our people in Gaza,” said Hamdallah during the inauguration of a water system in the town of Aqaba in the Tubas district.

“United we will be able to withstand all plots against our national cause and our just rights and will allow us to face unfair American decisions and constant Israeli violations,” he said.

Hamdallah said that the government is doing its best to become self-sufficient as foreign aid keeps declining.

However, he added, this will not happen with reconciliation and a unified homeland.

The prime minister said the donor countries are going to have a meeting in Brussels on March 20 to discuss financing a water desalination project in Gaza worth $650 million, which will be considered the largest in the region and the only solution for Gaza’s water problem and humanitarian disaster.
