Abu Rudeineh: President‘s UNSC speech a vision for peace and a new stage in the conflict

RAMALLAH, February 17, 2018 (WAFA) - President Mahmoud Abbas’ speech at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Tuesday will stress the issue of Jerusalem and its holy places as well as the Palestinian national constants, which will not be relinquished, presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said on Saturday.

"A new phase in the struggle has begun to preserve the overall goal for our Palestinian people, the Arab nation and the entire world, and that is the issue of Jerusalem with its Islamic and Christian holy places and its heritage and history, which some are trying to falsify in order to justify their breach of all international conventions and laws that have always emphasized that Jerusalem is a Palestinian and Arab city," Abu Rudeineh told reporters in Ramallah.

He said, “This period in our struggle is sensitive and dangerous and requires clear Palestinian and Arab positions to confront the dangers facing our national cause.” He stressed that “the current battle over Jerusalem will set the features of the region in the near and distant future.”

The spokesman said that “the national position must be embodied in the unison of the destiny in order to preserve Jerusalem and the common history. The world must hear a one Palestinian voice supporting the Palestinian constants and preserving the sacred meaning in facing the coming grave challenge. These are the complicated conditions to preserve the hope supported by faith in the homeland and the realization of the aspirations of our people for freedom and independence.”

He added: “The president‘s speech will be a message to the entire world that justice, peace and land are the only way to a secure and stable Middle East, a prosperous world free from all forms of terrorism, which are rejected and condemned.”

"The Palestinian people and the entire Arab nation stand behind the president in his struggle and efforts to end the occupation and establish the independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital so that Palestine will return to be the central Arab cause without which there will be no solution or peace," concluded Abu Rudeineh.
