Israeli forces use live bullets to disperse Ramallah protest

RAMALLAH, February 16, 2018 (WAFA) – At least one Palestinian protester was injured by live shots, another one by a teargas canister and others suffocated by teargas on Friday when Israeli army quelled a demonstration in the village of Mazra’a al-Gharbeya, to the west of Ramallah, according to local sources.

WAFA correspondent said Israeli soldiers attacked the protesters with live bullets, rubber-coated steel rounds, teargas canisters and stun grenades, injuring at least one of them with a live shot in his leg. Another protester was hit and injured by a teargas canister in his face.

Other protesters also suffocated from teargas inhalation.

The protesters were demonstrating against Israeli authorities’ decision to open a road near the village to serve illegal Israeli settlers, which will lead to disconnection of the village from nearby Ramallah city and from other neighboring villages.

The road to be opened will also obstruct or prohibit access of the village’s residents to about 4,000 dunums of their own land.
