JERUSALEM, February 15, 2018 (WAFA) – The Israeli police completed on Thursday the construction of a watch tower at Damascus Gate, the main gate into Jerusalem’s Old City, according to WAFA correspondent.

He said police brought equipment during the night to the new post, which will be used to monitor the plaza outside the gate used mainly by Palestinians going into and out of the Old City.

Several stabbing attacks by young Palestinians against Israeli police occurred in that area over the past two years. A number of Palestinians were also shot and killed there.

Palestinians also use the plaza to hold protests against Israeli policies and measures in the occupied city, which are usually broken up by force.

In addition to the police watch tower, surveillance cameras were set up at almost every corner and street in and around the Old City to monitor all activity.
