President Abbas leaves Russia after a 3-day official visit

 

MOSCOW, February 14, 2018 (WAFA) – President Mahmoud Abbas has left Russia on Wednesday after a 3-day long official visit during which he met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and other Russian officials and clergy.

Before leaving Russia, President Abbas visited the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow and met with Patriarch Kirill.

The Palestinian President briefed the Patriarch on the latest political developments and the ongoing Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people.

In the meeting with Putin on his first day of the visit, the two leaders discussed the latest developments related to the Palestinian issue, particularly the issue of Jerusalem following US recognition of Jerusalem as capital of Israel, and the possibility of finding new international mechanism to mediate a peace deal between the Palestinians and Israel.
