Egypt‘s Sisi: United States should revive Palestinian-Israeli peace talks

CAIRO, February 12, 2018 (WAFA) - Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi told US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson during their meeting in Cairo on Monday the United States should revive negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis.

In an official statement, Egyptian presidency spokesman Bassam Rady said Sisi affirmed Egypt‘s clear and unwavering stance on reaching a fair and comprehensive solution that guarantees the right of Palestinian people and the establishment of an independent state with its capital in East Jerusalem in line with the June 1967 borders in accordance with international resolutions.

Sisi and Tillerson have reviewed Egypt‘s efforts in countering terrorism amid the major military operation the Egyptian army has launched recently to uproot terrorism from the country.

Tillerson further stressed his country‘s commitment and support for Egypt‘s war against terrorism, the spokesman said.

The US Secretary emphasized Egypt‘s role as an important partner to the United State, saying his country is keen on strengthening and developing this relationship.

Earlier in the day, Tillerson told reporters after his meeting in Cairo with his Egyptian counterpart that the United States remains committed to achieve lasting peace between the Palestinians and the Israelis.
