CAIRO, February 11, 2018 (WAFA) - Member of Fatah Central Committee Azzam al-Ahmed said on Monday he briefed Egyptian acting intelligence chief, Abbas Kamel, on the latest political developments related to the Palestinian cause.

Ahmed told WAFA that their meeting, which was held late on Sunday in Cairo, comprehensively reviewed steps to implement the Egyptian-brokered Cairo reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas.

He said they discussed starting the implementation of the first step of the agreement to end the internal division, which is enabling the National Consensus Government to assume full power in the Gaza Strip.

Ahmed stressed that the reconciliation process is very slow, adding that there are obstacles placed in a deliberate manner by Hamas movement not to implement the agreement accurately.

He pointed out that there are many hurdles that block members of the government to function normally in the ministries.

The acting intelligence chief stressed that Egypt will continue its efforts with all parties to achieve the Palestinian reconciliation so as the Palestinians can defend their rights, end the Israeli occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state, Ahmed said, adding that the Egyptian official assured that the Egyptian authorities will speed up work at the Rafah crossing between Egypt and Gaza in order to facilitate movement of people in coordination with the Palestinian Authority and its institutions.
