RAMALLAH, February 12, 2018 (WAFA) – The summit meeting between President Mahmoud Abbas and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Sochi planned for Monday, as well as Israeli settlers activities in the occupied territories were highlighted on the front page of the dailies on Monday.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted the Abbas-Putin meeting and said the president is going to discuss with the Russian leader a new vision for the peace process.
Al-Quds said Israeli settlers razed Palestinian land near Burqin in the north of the West Bank and set up a new outpost. This story was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida.
Al-Ayyam highlighted the aftermath of the downing of an Israeli jet fighter over Syria last week saying Israel wants to shift internal discussion about this by raising the issue of Iranian presence in Syria. The papers reported as well on reactions to that incident.
The paper quoted US President Donald Trump saying that the Palestinians are not seeking peace and that he was not sure Israel also wants peace, which was also reported in al-Quds.
Al-Ayyam reported on a meeting in Cairo between Fatah Central Committee member Azzam al-Ahmad and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri in which the two discussed intra-Palestinian reconciliation and government empowerment in Gaza.
This story was also reported in al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Quds, which said that Shukri told Ahmad the importance of proceeding with reconciliation.
Al-Quds said Gaza employees held a protest demanding to be included on the Palestinian Authority’s payroll.
Al-Hayat al-Jadida said the Palestinian Monetary Authority announced strict measures to fight checks that bounce.
The three papers highlighted also Arab, Israeli and international news on their front page.
