Palestine to receive $10M in aid assistance from Turkey

ANKARA, February 3, 2018 (WAFA) - Palestine is set to receive $10 million in aid assistance from Turkey.

An agreement was signed on Wednesday during a meeting between Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs Riyad al-Malki, and his Turkish counterpart,  Mevlüt Cavusoglu in the Turkish city of Antalya, where they discussed recent developments, particularly the issue of Jerusalem, and all aspects of bilateral relations.

They also discussed executive mechanisms to implement the outcomes of the OIC Summit, including the decisions made at the level of Member States during the summit.

An emergency summit of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) took place on December 13th, 2017 in Istanbul to discuss the repercussions of the critical US decision on Jerusalem.

Al-Malki stressed the importance of a high-level coordination between the two countries in order to counter the US President Donald Trump’s ‘illegal and unjust’ decision on Jerusalem as capital of Israel.

He further stressed the importance of preventing other countries from following in the footsteps of US in recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and continuing efforts to get countries who have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to do so.

Al-Malki further discussed the importance of forming a multilateral mechanism to re-activate the political process in accordance with international laws and resolutions of international community.

Regarding the $10 million in aid assistance from Turkey, the Palestinian Authority will receive the first installment of $3.5 million, which will be allocated to support priority projects in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Malki said the Palestinian side is working with international actors to establish a multilateral international mechanism under the umbrella of the United Nations to sponsor the peace process, affirming that the PA no longer accepts the US monopoly of the peace process.
