Protest in Helsinki against Trump’s Jerusalem declaration

 

HELSINKI, December 17, 2017 (WAFA) – A mass demonstration in Helsinki, Finland, was held in solidarity with the Palestinians and to protest against US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The demonstration, which was organized by the Jerusalem Youth coalition and in cooperation with the Palestinian Diaspora in Finland and other Finnish parties, took off from the center of the capital, Helsinki, and continued towards the location of the US embassy to protect Trump’s decision.

Protestors held the Palestine flag and chanted slogans in support of Palestinians, while calling for freedom and ending the Israeli occupation.

The speakers at the event expressed their support for the Palestinian people in their struggle against the Israeli occupation, and called on the Finnish government to recognize the state of Palestine, which goes along with the official position of Finland’s support of the two-state solution in accordance with the European Union.

Tayseer al-Ajouri, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Finland, praised in his speech the participants for their solidarity with the struggle against the occupation, pointing out the serious consequences of the US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

He called for the recognition of the state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital as a step to support Palestine, thanking activists in all the cities of Finland for supporting Palestinians in their struggle for freedom and independence.
